Building Bridges, Inc. is bringing the Beverage Chemistry STEM Program to seventh-grade students, where they will explore the science behind everyday drinks and learn how to define pH while experimenting with how different substances can change pH levels and create visible reactions.

Fifth-grade students will explore the science behind food preservation through our Oxidation STEM Program. In this hands-on lesson, students will apply and observe the process of oxidation and discover how it affects fruits and vegetables, including ways to prevent them from turning brown.

Through interactive experimentation and observation, students will connect scientific concepts to real-world applications while building curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking skills in STEM.

At St. Thomas Apostle School, 4th graders will explore the science of sound with our Sound of Physics STEM Program. Students will learn how vibrations create sound, experiment with different materials and instruments, and discover the physics behind everyday noises through hands-on activities that make learning interactive and fun.

At St. Thomas Apostle School, 3rd graders will explore the world of taste, smell, and texture with our Sensory Science STEM Program. Students will learn how scientists study food and beverages, participate in hands-on tasting activities, and discover how sensory analysis helps companies like PepsiCo create products people love.

PepsiCo Career Exposure Day offers students a unique opportunity to explore career pathways within a global food and beverage company. Hosted at PepsiCo’s Chicago office, the event includes a guided office tour, an overview of PepsiCo’s diverse portfolio, and career spotlights from professionals in Research & Development, Marketing, Sales, and other corporate roles. Participants will also gain practical experience through hands-on resume writing and interview preparation workshops designed to support their professional growth.

In partnership with HSA Belmont High School, high school students will explore Beverage Chemistry through our STEM Program. Students will learn how pH works, experiment with acidity in beverages, and observe how adding baking soda can change pH levels and cause visible color changes through hands-on activities.

In celebration of Black Creativity, kids and families can talk with African American artists, scientists and engineers about innovative work.
